Making money eh? That’s a concept and a half for a musicians nowadays, but what if you could get some support for your next video, EP, single? That’s where crowdfunding comes in.
My artist is looking to get some help with couple of videos from her debut EP and really, crowdfunding might be the best answer at this point.
You can find a uselful template to help you get started here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SLTl-g8yyucFQe2AAhu5nLZ0HCsV6GPzeG5N-PpaAaE/edit?usp=sharing
On this doc you’ll find the following list:
- Money and product goal. This will be important in choosing your crowdfunding platform. Kickstarter may be the place to raise funds for albums and songs rather than for any music equipment you may need. Platforms like Indiegogo and and GoGet Funding help with smaller goals and let you keep the funds you raised even if you didnt reach your target. Things to think about…
- Incentives.- the important one. What can you offer your fans in return for a donation? Even the smallest thing like a shout out can be useful. Think about how you can involve the fans in your product. An important one is keeping them updated in the most personal way, exclusive video diaries and shots are a good idea.
- Video Plea. It’s best to make a video to convince viewers to get involved with your campaign. If you’re wondering: go for the obvious intro, explanation of the product you’re raising for, incentives and conclusion. Keep in mind your audience and stage of your career, maybe you’re introducing yourself for the first time to people or you already have a mailing list base to send this to. Create a script and go from there!
- Plan to promote and keep backers engaged. This is last thing you’ll need, a plan of action throughout the campaign to keep supporters checked in to your progress. Here’s some handy ideas: Mailing list with updates, create a recap video of milestones, release early to supporters, tag different backers in IG bio each week, pictures from the studio, snippets of lyrics, album artwork, and the rewards fans will get by supporting your campaign.
Circling back, if you’re undecided on the platform you want to choose. You can find a useful comparing tool on Go Get Funding’s page here:

This is all I have so far. For us, what’s next for the diary is materialising the plea, incentives and getting things live!
Stay updated for part 2 to see how this is going – wish us luck!
