What we can learn from the AIM 2023 Future Independents Conference

The Association of Independent Music came together again to offer a day of free talks from some key industry figures, at we just scratched the surface of the info they shared!

Here are just few of the tidbits we heard when listening in:

Quotes from the experts:

“I’m not looking for an artist that is looking for a manager, I’m looking for an artist that is already doing it. They’re not looking for me to fill any gaps, instead it’s about coming together as a whole to work towards a goal.”

“When people start to approach you, it’s the right time to build your team. It means you’re at the right stage in your career”

“Play the long game with spending as an early stage artist”

“With every milestone you hit, the artist will likely always want to change their next step”

“PR might not get you the exposure and likes like creating your own content on your social media page will, but it will cement your credibility as an artist.. and raise attention of other industry figures”

“Some of the most interesting new campaigns, have a multi tiered approach, and take the audience on a journey”

“PR will help you address the super fans and music tastemakers that will help you build a loyal fanbase”

“When creating your campaign, figure out where you’re positioning yourself, indentify which scene you’re a part of and make use of it”

“(Whilst promoting) keep trying different things, be imaginative, prioritise personal connection”

These insights let us know once again that patience, personal connection and the long haul is what matters most when promoting your music.

Thanks again to AIM for hosting this conference, hopefully the playback will available for viewers soon. Keep posted on the the @artist_avenues and @aim_uk socials for more info regarding that!

Best of luck πŸ™‚
