Conversations Unearthed — December 2025

Key insights from industry talks about AI, finance, and music therapy — broken down so you don’t have to be everywhere.

Every month, countless industry panels and talks happen that most artists never see. You don’t have to be everywhere at once — we do the listening and bring the highlights to you. Here’s what stood out in December 2025.

  1. 1. Attribution at the Speed of Sound | MBA x Audible Magic
  2. 2. MMF Research Unpacked: Guide to Alternative Finance
  3. 3. An Introduction to Music Therapy with Serenna Wagner

1. Attribution at the Speed of Sound | MBA x Audible Magic

The Music Business Association, based in the US, seem to have an abundance of webinars.

This time they partnered with Audible Magic, their work is intended to track usage of music so that the correct rights holders can earn from the correct songs – really important in the face of the surge of AI generated/altered music having such a huge impact on online platforms.

Our notes

  1. Music licensing organisations include: PRS, PPL, ASCAP etc.
  2. Companies like Identity Music help artists with digital fingerprinting
  3. Support the campaign around AI and fighting for consent, credit and remuneration.

2. MMF Research Unpacked: Guide to Alternative Finance

The Music Managers Forum are a UK based organisation that is a must for managers. Touring, mental health, and earning money are just some of the topics they cover.

This fast-paced talk, hosted up by Chief Executive Annabella Coldrick, made it evident that the MMF are experts at creating panels that are direct/to the point and insightful.

While it’s clear that the target audience seemed to be managers with established careers, there was lots to takeaway and read between the lines for those that are just starting.

Our notes

  • The artist-to-manager relationship is becoming more important than ever.
  • Get clued up about your sources of value as a musician. This link was provided as a start.
  • Make sure to agree in writing what your terms are for future agreements, for example selling catalogues.

3. An Introduction to Music Therapy with Serenna Wagner

This final talk of the month was the most personal and gentle, a refreshing change for us. The panel revealed to us a new side of music that we usually don’t cover: how music shows up in everyday life rather than the public facing/arduous artist pathways we come across.

Music therapy is a relatively rare and newly recognised care method increasing in the UK.

In 2008 there were 603 registered music therapists, and recent data from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) shows around 1,013 music therapists registered in England as of March 2023.

Our notes

We’ve added a video from the talk that we thought was powerful, showing the work that these therapists can do.

Serenna has plenty of resources available on her website here.

That’s all for now! We hope this note style helps those who struggle with lots of text.

We look forward to making this a a regular digest in 2026 and covering some of the years most insightful conversations.
